10 Natural hacks to keep ants away from your home


How many times it happened that your favorite food get spoiled by ants or you just hate them and want to get rid of them. Ants commonly found indoors include the Argentine ant, the pharaoh ant, the thief or grease ant, the pavement ant and the odorous house ant.

So, here are some useful tips to help you get rid of ants easily :



1. Vinegar 

Clean surfaces in your homes especially where you find ants mostly with vinegar and water solution mixed in equal proportions. In general, this is a great mixture for cleaning and can replace detergents. Ants hate the smell of vinegar and also it removes the scent trails which would prevent more ants from following their tracks.


2. Lemon Juice 

Just like vinegar, lemon juice also seems to destroy those scent trails that ants follow. Try spraying lemon juice around the places you think ants are using for entryways.



3. Peppermint Oil 

Clean surfaces in your homes really well, and then wipe them with damp cloth containing some drops of peppermint oil on it. Ants really hate its smell and it is environmentally friendly, and safe for humans and children.

4. Soapy Water 

Soapy water will both kill the ants it hits and it will destroy their chemical trail, preventing more ants from following in their tracks. This cheap and easy method consists simply of putting one teaspoon of liquid dish soap into a spray bottle and filling it with water. When you see ants, spritz them and that will be it!



5. Spices and herbs 

Sprinkle black pepper, cayenne pepper, chili pepper, cinnamon, mint, chili pepper, cloves or garlic (whichever you have at hand) wherever you’ve seen ants and along your home’s foundation. It also helps to make your home smell good and fresh.



6. Cucumber or citrus peels

Cucumber and citrus peels are toxic to the types of fungi that ants feed on, so they don’t want to go anywhere near them. So, place these peels where ever you find ants.


7. Chalk and Baby Powder

Try drawing a line of chalk or sprinkle baby powder across the spot where the ants are entering your home. It works because talcum powder, an ingredient in both chalk and baby powder, is a natural ant repellent.

8. Coffee Grounds 

Sprinkle your used coffee grounds in the garden and around the outside of your house. If you can locate exactly where the ants are getting in, be sure to put some there. You should see them move away from your home because they dislike the smell of coffee grounds.




9. Camphor

Ants dislike the smell of camphor.These can be used fresh or in oil form to disturb the ambiance of any area that ants have been making their way to.



10. Don't leave out any dirty dishes.

Wash all dishes as they're used. Wipe down all of your cupboard and bench top surfaces with vinegar; this cleans, disinfects and leaves a nasty smell as far as ants are concerned.
